While a lot of these songs are definetely some of 90s best in rap there are few that, yes, are fun and might have been huge hits (e.g. Kriss Kross or DJ Kool) but as far as musical innovation and quality of music goes…well that and 2 or 3 of them would be reggae rather than hip-hop. And what about this? No Roots song? And Illmatic? All the songs from this album coulda made the list! Anyway, my opinion!

Listening to ’90s rap makes me think what’s missing in modern rap: funky beats, R&B backing vocals, scratching, raw rhymes and most importantly, the forgotten element of hip-hop: knowledge.
